Privacy Policy
Draft. Pending legal review.
This policy explains what Clanc collects, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Clanc is the front door to a certification program; the program and this site are run by the team behind Clanc ("we", "us").
What we collect
- Account: your email address, used to sign you in by magic link or one-time code.
- Intake: what you choose to share, like your name and country, profile links (GitHub, LinkedIn, a personal site), the languages you speak, your experience, the areas you work in (including any you add), your stack and tools, your time zone, what you're hoping to get from the program, and anything else you add. Most of it is optional.
- Assessment: your answers and your result on the timed filter.
- Technical signals: limited request data, for example a coarse, truncated IP address and basic device/browser information, used only to detect and prevent abuse. We never show these to applicants.
- Acceptances: a record that you accepted the Terms and Privacy Policy, with the version and the date. If you reach the confidentiality step, we also keep your typed signature, the version, and the date.
We do not ask for sensitive categories of data (such as health, ethnicity, or political views). Please don't include them in free-text fields.
Stored in your browser
- A strictly-necessary cookie keeps you signed in.
- So you don't lose your work, your in-progress intake is saved locally in your browser and never leaves your device until you submit; it's cleared once you submit.
- For convenience, some fields may be pre-filled from your browser settings (your time zone and preferred languages). Nothing is collected from these unless you submit the form.
- Optional cookies are used only with your consent.
Why we process it (lawful basis)
To run the certification program you asked to join (steps taken at your request, pre-contract), and our legitimate interest in keeping the process fair and free of fraud. Where we rely on consent (see "Staying in the network"), you can withdraw it at any time.
How long we keep it
We keep your operational data only as long as needed to run the round you applied to. If you do not opt into the network (below), we remove your details when the round is over or when you ask, whichever comes first.
Staying in the network (optional)
If you opt in, we keep your profile so we can tell you about future rounds and other opportunities. This is separate, explicit, and revocable: turn it off any time on your account page, and we stop. Withdrawing it does not affect your standing in the current round.
Sharing
Clanc and the program's private workspace run on one shared backend operated by the team behind Clanc, who are the controller of your data; our infrastructure providers (hosting, email delivery, video calls) act as processors under contract. We do not sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Your rights
You can access a copy of your data and delete it, from your account page. Deletion is real: we irreversibly remove your details across our systems and keep only a one-way, non-identifying record that the removal happened (so we honor your request and don't contact you again). Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws, including the right to object or to complain to a regulator.
Cookies
We use a strictly-necessary cookie to keep you signed in, and optional cookies only with your consent. Manage them from the cookie banner or your account page.

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date below reflects the current version. Material changes will be highlighted.
